My guests and I clinking glasses – girls' night out!
Vancouver Food Tour, Vancouver’s premiere culinary experience and most popular attraction according to TripAdvisor is hiring food tour guides for the approaching tourism season. The tour guides are responsible to lead groups of guests throughout the city by foot while highlighting the neighbourhoods’ history and features. At each destination, the guide will attend to the guests’ needs while introducing them to Vancouver’s local cuisine. It is the guide’s responsibility to provide the guests with an informative and entertaining tour while ensuring their comfort and safety. The guide’s performance will be reviewed by the guests at the end of each tour.
Candidates should be knowledgeable, enthusiastic, approachable, proactive, professional, extroverted, warm, problem solvers and die-hard Vancouver locals . The ability to demonstrate passion for food and the city of Vancouver is a must and hospitality expertise is a definite asset.
This is a contracted position with periodical “gigs” that will start softly in the spring. The volume will increase drastically in the summer when the tours start to run daily. The tours will be led by myself and several other guides so the schedule will be relatively flexible. Guides must be available on weekends and ideally after 4:00 pm on weeknights. This is a seasonal position without stable or guaranteed hours. In other words, don’t quit your day job but be prepared to earn some healthy side cash, meet people from around the world, and eat very well.
The compensation is generous and the guides will keep all the tips from the guests, ranging from an average of $60-$150 per tour. Food and beverages are included. You might be thinking, “I get paid to eat? Am I dreaming?” No, you’re not, but I’m also excruciatingly selective and first impression means everything in this industry so don’t hold back on your application.
To apply:
- Familiarize yourself with all of the website’s content, then complete the application form below as thoroughly as possible. Be honest, direct, concise, and genuine. Wordiness and unnecessarily elaborate language will not win you brownie points.
- Optional but highly recommended: Create a short video (30-60 seconds) that demonstrates why you would make the perfect food tour guide. The guests may forget the food but they will remember your personality. Be creative and show your true self. I’m a quirky girl (read my blog if you didn’t know) so I’m looking for someone with personality that engages and enlightens me. Quality doesn’t matter – use your webcam, camera, or even phone and don’t worry about editing. Upload the video (e.g. youtube, vimeo) and insert the link in the application form below. The video will not be published to the public without your explicit consent.
