Juniper Kitchen + Bar – A Popular Stop on Vancouver Food Tour

Juniper Kitchen is one of our spots on our Chinatown Food Tour and they’ve recently welcomed a new chef. While changes in the principals behind the tour stops we partner with concern us, once we heard the chef was Chef Josh Gale, we knew are guests would still be enjoying top quality bites on the tour.

We met Chef Gale at Nicli, where he was doing wonders with pasta and turning out inventive salads and vegetables. Just take a look at his Instagram and you’ll see what he’s capable of.

Juniper Kitchen + Bar is focused on Cascadian cuisines and wines, and who better than a Vancouver-born chef to continue this theme. Josh is self-taught, but has mentored with top chefs at internationally acclaimed restaurants such as Vancouver’s Hawksworth and Café Bouloud and Gramercy Tavern in New York. You might know him from Vancouver restaurants as Fable, Nicli’s Next Door and, most recently, the award-winning Wildebeest.

From the press release Chef Gale is quoted: “I want to continue to build upon Juniper’s Pacific Northwest and Cascadian focus, because my food philosophy is strongly tied to time and place,” Josh explains. “I believe that a good restaurant, much less a great restaurant, must be an expression of where and when it exists.”

We checked into some items on the Dine Out Vancouver menu and were super impressed.


Elk Tartare with blueberries, juniper, burnt hay aioli.


Bison Short Rib with creamed brussels sprouts and a bone marrow jus.

Diners will be able to preview Josh’s new Winter Menu during Dine Out Vancouver, taking place Friday, January 20 to Sunday, February 5. The three-course tasting menu is priced at $40 per person.

Brown butter risotto, trumpet mushrooms, roasted rutabaga, watermelon radish (V)(GF)


Crème posset, sea buckthorn gelee, thyme shortbread (GF)

or Apple butter, vanilla streusel, caramelized white chocolate, smoked cheddar

The full Winter Menu will launch Monday, February 6, with most mains in the $19 to $27 price range.
